Come down the main hallway of St. Joan of Arc to read some fantastic stories written by the 2nd graders! The creative masterpieces are posted on the hallway bulletin board. Mrs. Leone helps in 2nd grade twice a week. She was a primary teacher in IPS for many years. She and Mrs. Breen keep us busy with Reading Mastery, spelling, phonics, cursive writing, and now creative writing! We try to write two stories each month. Stop by to read and enjoy yourself!

We had a special guest visit SJA on January 10th. He is a member of the Harlem Globetrotters. He is known by the name of Moo-Moo. One of the 3rd grade students, Maggie, won an essay contest which allowed Moo-Moo to come to SJA. He gave an inspirational speech about healthy living. The Globetrotters are going to be performing at Conseco Fieldhouse on MLK Day at 2:00 p.m. Thanks, Maggie and Moo-Moo!

Second Grade Saints
On November 1, 2007, the second graders were introduced early in the All Saints' Day Mass as the saints they chose to portray. The students learned about their saints' countries of origin, feast days, when they lived, and about their sainthood (patron saint of ___). Costumes were creative, colorful, and made from simple items brought from home. Each "saint" carried a symbol for which they are best known. The children were very proud and excited to show SJOA all they had learned!

Storytelling Festival
On October 12, 2007, the second graders went to the Hoosier Storytelling Festival at Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. During that chilly day, the kids heard six dynamic local and national storytellers. They enjoyed their sack lunch during the intermission. We took this photo at the White River Canal before the festival began.
Many thanks to Michael O'Brien at Printing Partners for funding this fun field trip.
